Emily Ann Stone Redding, age 80, of Asheboro passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at the First Health Hospice House of Pinehurst. A memorial graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Oaklawn Cemetery with Rev. Mark Key and Rev. Barry Queen officiating. Emily, a native of Asheboro, was born April 4, 1931 to the late Weldon "Dick" Stone and Bon Frances Stone. She attended UNC Chapel Hill and received an Undergraduate Degree and Masters Degree from UNC Greensboro. She worked as a Psychometrist at UNC Chapel Hill and Asheboro City Schools. She also taught psychology at Asheboro College and Randolph Community College. Providing quality education for children was one of her passions as she served 12 years on the Asheboro City School Board of Education, 4 years as Vice-Chairwoman and 4 years as Chairwoman. Emily also served on the Alpha House Board, Mental Health Association, Randolph Community College Foundation and the Ferree Foundation for Education. One of the joys in her life was her service and devotion to her Lord and Central United Methodist Church. She was a 3rd generation, life-long member and served in many capacities. She served on the Administrative Board, taught Sunday School for many years at elementary, youth and adult levels. Dearest to her were the ladies and friends in the Wednesday morning Prayer Group and the many Bible studies she lead throughout the years. Her devotion and love for her family were without measure. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Max Herman Redding and her son Shann Stone Redding. She is survived by her daughter Bonna Redding Leonard, and her husband, Lee Peeler Leonard of Pinehurst, NC; 4 grandchildren, Emilyanne Wilson Leonard of High Point, NC, Sydney Winslow Leonard of Chapel Hill, NC, Shann Redding Leonard and Carter Aldrich Leonard of Pinehurst; her sister Juanita Stone Garner and husband Coyte Garner of Roanoke, VA. The family will receive friends Saturday, December 31, 2011 from 12:00-1:30 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 300 S. Main St. Asheboro, NC 27203 or to Shann S. Redding Scholarship for Excellence Fund, Asheboro City Schools, P. O. Box 1103, Asheboro, NC 27204.
