Emily Burns Norris, age 87, of Carson St, Troy died Monday, September 22, 2014 at Autumn Care Nursing & Rehabilitation, Biscoe.
Emily was born April 6, 1927 in Candor, grew up there and loved her surroundings. She was the daughter of Causey Clinton and Mary Bessie Hicks Burns. She was a member of Troy Presbyterian Church.
Emily was a retired telephone operator from Central Telephone Company and later worked and retired from the accounting and payroll department of Collins and Aikman of Troy.
She loved her dogs, gardening, church friends and family: Leslie Whitesell, Minnie Wood, Betty Charles Cochran, Joyce McCall and Doris Haywood.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Norris, her siblings: Pauline Hicks, Maxine Hogan and her twin brother, Marvin "Bud" Burns.
She is survived by two daughters: Sue N Hatley and Janice N Gooch, both of Troy; one sister: Nellie Howell of Troy; grandchildren: C. E. Hatley, III; Amanda Buchanan and husband Shawn; David Gooch, Jantzen Hussey; great-grandchildren: Beaux Buchanan, Dagen Hussey and Sammi Overton.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 23, 2014 from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm in the old Macedonia Presbyterian Church, 3269 Candor Troy Rd., Biscoe. The funeral will follow at 3:00 pm with Rev. David Speering officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery, Troy.
