Elwood Bernard "Bernie" Miller, age 88, of Asheboro passed away on Monday, October 8, 2018 at Randolph Hospice House.
Mr. Miller was born in Montgomery, AL on March 5, 1930 to Ollie and Mattie Burson Miller. Bernie served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was formerly employed with Union Carbide and retired from Ralston-Purina. Bernie was a member of Central United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir. In addition to his parents, Bernie was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Palmer Miller and brother, Ollie K. Miller, Jr.
He is survived by his daughters, Sherry Jean Ferree and husband Randy of Asheboro and Leila Ann Tissue and husband Joe of Charlotte; son, Elwood Bernard "Bernie" Miller, Jr. of California; 4 grandchildren; sister, Mary Gene Bowden of Prattville, AL; and brother, Charles R. Miller of Conyers, GA.
Mr. Miller's body will lie in state on Thursday, October 11, 2018 from 3:00-5:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 12, 2018 from 9:00-9:45 am at Central United Methodist Church, 300 South Main Street in Asheboro. Funeral services will follow on Friday at 10:00 am at Central United Methodist Church with Dr. J.F. Howard Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
