Ellis Clayton Harris, age 86, of Jamestown died Sunday, October 13, 2013.
The family will hold a private Celebration of Life gathering at a later date.
Mr. Harris was born in Robersonville, NC on April 10, 1927 to Luther Franklin and Mary Alice Phillips Harris. Ellis served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII in the Sixth Marine Division. He attended UNC-Chapel Hill and became an avid Carolina fan. Ellis was retired from J.P. Stevens and was later employed with Odell Mill Supply of Greensboro. He formerly attended Jamestown United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, Ellis was preceded in death by his son Brad Harris, and brothers, Luther and Howard Harris.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Isley Harris; daughters, Joy Witcher and her husband, Melvin R. Witcher, Jr. of Jamestown and Lynn Harris and her husband, Ed Blackburn of Greensboro; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and brother, Donald Harris of Jamestown.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215-3220.
