Elizabeth Caroline "Betty" Simmons, age 81, of 241 E. Walker Avenue, Asheboro died Friday, May 4, 2012 at the Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at 2:30 PM at First Baptist Church, 133 North Church Street, Asheboro with Dr. John S. Rogers and Rev. Mark Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park.
Miss Simmons was born in Conover, NC on April 18, 1931 to Homer and Cornell Ausley Simmons, who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Appalachian State University, Mars Hill College, and the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Betty was a retired school teacher and taught 3rd grade at Central School, McCrary and Donna Lee Loflin Elementary Schools. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir and the Senior Adult Choir-The Joyful Singers.
She is survived by her brother, Richard Simmons and his wife Inez of Edgewater, FL; sister, Ruth Eddinger and her husband Fred of Randleman, NC; niece, Donna E. Williams of Trinity, NC; nephews, Michael Eddinger of Staley, NC, Lee Simmons of Palm Bay, FL, Jeff Simmons of Edgewater, FL; 8 great nieces and nephews and 5 great great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary prior to the service from 1:30-2:30 PM on Sunday.
