Elizabeth Cooper "Bookie" Lewis, age 89, of 330 W. Presnell St., #2, Asheboro died Friday, October 9, 2009 at Clapps Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro. Bookie was born in Chattanooga, TN on May 19, 1920, and lived most of her life in Tidewater Virginia and Asheboro. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Asheboro and a Charter member of the Faith Wesleyan Church in Norfolk. A member of the Order of the Eastern Star, she had served as Worthy Matron both in the Westminster Chapter in Norfolk and the Randolph Chapter in Asheboro. She retired from Bell Atlantic after 37 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband Morris H. Lewis. She is survived by one son: James G. Cooper and his wife Patty of Asheboro, NC; granddaughter, Jamie Price and her husband Trick; grandson, Brian Cooper and his wife Tiffany;; great grandchildren, Mia, Erin, Sydney,Cooper, Megan, and Christopher; and special friends, Sue and Pokey. The funeral will be Monday, October 12, 2009, 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church, 420 West Walker Ave., Asheboro with Rev. Paul Ridolfi and Rev. Connie Walker officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the memorial service in the fellowship hall of the church. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Maria, Nikki, Tammy, Velma, and Rebecca who cared for her in the home, the neighbors of Williams Creek for their many visits, Mike and Lorraine Sherrill for their kindness, and to the staff at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home for the care they provided.
