Elizabeth “Doll” Ann Smith of Gastonia died peacefully in her home on Thursday, Oct. 28. She was 79 years old. Doll was born and raised in Gastonia and was the daughter of the late Allen Henry Smith and Lillian Lavender Smith. As mother to Donna, Susan and Lillie, she served as a Girl Scout leader and was a longtime member of the Junior League of Gaston County. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church and a talented Master Gardener. Doll enjoyed travel, and knitting, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her card buddies.
Doll is survived by her favorite (four-legged) daughter Muffin, daughters Donna Spurrier Johnson and husband Duffy, Susan Spurrier Chambers and husband Cliff, and Lillie Spurrier Riemann and husband Tom, and grandchildren Elizabeth McKinnon and husband Michael, Sarah Hardesty and husband Trey, and Matthew and Ben Riemann, and siblings Sandra Smith Soterakis and David Smith and wife Ada Ellen.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6, at First United Methodist Church, 190 E. Franklin Blvd, Gastonia, with the Rev. Tripp Hord officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church. Pugh Funeral Home is assisting the family.
