Elizabeth (Betty) DeRatt, 88, of Asheboro went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, December 8, 2007.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband and soul mate of 60 years, Alan, her parents, infant son, great-grandson and sister.
She is survived by her children: Becky and her husband, Luther Long of Cary, Linda Warren of Salisbury, Stan DeRatt of Charlotte, Alan DeRatt, Jr. and his wife, Deborah of Asheboro; grandchildren Youngs Long of High Point, Mardi Long-Barton of Cary, Tricia Weast of Salisbury, Harry McCora, III of Salisbury, Daniel McCora of Salisbury, Billy Medford of Asheboro, great grandchildren; Trenton, Brittany, Nathan, Mallory, Abby; sister; Evelyn Hunt of Thomasville; and members of First Baptist Churchs Joy Class.
Born to Zebulon Vance and Irma Kelly Stokes on December 19, 1918 in Sampson County, North Carolina, she graduated from Sampson County Public Schools and Business College in Wilmington, North Carolina. Outside the home, she worked as a Secretary and Office Manager in the restaurant and insurance industries; and, as a volunteer for various community organizations. She was honored by different Civic and Church groups for her service and dedication to the community as a whole. She was most happy in with The Joy Class at First Baptist Church Asheboro; and was pleased to have been part of the support, growth and involvement for Special Programs within the Community.
Elizabeth was a woman of deep faith and commitment to Christ. She served on numerous Committees and Boards throughout the city, county and state to promote, foster, and instigate endeavors to ensure physical, spiritual and financial resources were available to all in need. She was, indeed, small in statue; however, her quiet and steady voice was mighty, as many have reaped the benefits from her caring, consistent, and determined efforts while daily going about the Lords work.
Family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday, December 10th at Pugh Funeral Home 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, and other times at 1411 Timberlake Road, Asheboro.
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, December 11th at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, 133 North Church Street, Asheboro with Dr. John Rogers officiating. Graveside service and burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro.
