RANDLEMAN - Edwin Roy "Eddie" Gray, Jr., age 59, of Cotati, CA. died Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
Eddie was a native of Randolph County and a member of First United Methodist Church. He was an accomplished musician. He was the pianist and organist at First United Methodist Church for years. Eddie began playing the piano at age 5 with Mrs. Beasley giving him lessons. He was a graduate of Randleman High School class of 1973 then went to Greensboro Methodist College and graduated with 2 majors in Piano and voice in 4 years instead of 5 years. He worked at the Yachtsmen at Myrtle Beach one summer and at the Indigo Motel and was in numerous plays while there. He got his 3rd degree in drama from University of South Carolina. Eddie moved to New York City and attended Julliard College and graduated from there in 1979. He also was an associate professor at Julliard and worked many years in music and drama in New York and California. Eddie played and sang in the church choir, he modeled for Macy's, he was in a lot of off Boardway shows, and coached actors and singers on Boardway. Eddie wrote jungles for Mastercard and other companys and yet was an excellent cook. He is preceded in death by his mother, Mazie Claudean Gray.
He is survived by his father: Edwin Roy Gray, of Randleman; and sister, Vicki Gray of Randleman and several cousins.
The family will receive friends Monday, September 29, 2014 from 9:45-10:45 AM. at First United Methodist Church, 301 S. Main St., Randleman, NC. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM with Dr. Dana Bunn and Rev. Don Hurlburt officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro.
