Edward "Eddie" Ray Sawyer, age 56, of Randleman died Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer and other illnesses.
Eddie was employed by UPS in Greensboro for 21 years. He was active in local youth sports for more than 30 years, always a positive influence on the kids and the community in which he coached. Eddie's greatest love was his family and nothing meant more than having his loved ones close by. To have met Eddie was to love him, he never met a stranger and he also was an avid South Carolina Gamecocks sports fan. Eddie is preceded in death by his father Tom Sawyer and his brother Opie Sawyer.
He is survived by his wife: Teresa Ann Stanton Sawyer, of the home; children: Brandon (Cassie) Sawyer, Ashley (Jacob) McCollum all of Randleman, and Savannah Sawyer of the home; grandchildren: Sawyer McCollum, Hallie, Sophie, Stella and Jake Sawyer all of Randleman; Mother, Florence Sawyer of Simpsonville, SC; siblings: Betty (Dean) Guess of Columbia, SC, Tom Sawyer, Jr. of Simpsonville, SC and Faye (Paul) Puckett of Prosperity, SC; in-laws: George and Mary Stanton of Randleman.
The family will receive friends Saturday, July 22, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 South Main Street, Randleman, NC. A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 23, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 600 South Main Street, Randleman with Rev. Jeff Case officiating. Burial will follow at Centre Friends Meeting Cemetery, Greensboro.
