Edward Goguen

d. November 30, 2014

Edward Goguen, age 97, died Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro, NC. He (with his wife Fern) was a resident of Carillon Assisted Living in Asheboro. Mr. Goguen was born in Gardner, MA on January 6, 1917, the son of Saul Goguen and Henrietta Ledger Goguen. He spent most of his life there. Edward was a woodworker at Heywood Wakefield Company in Gardner for 19 years. Following that employment, he worked for 19 years as the chief custodian (affectionately called "The Bideau") at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, also in Gardner, of which he and his family were members. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and was associated with St. Joseph Catholic Church in Asheboro, NC. Ed played the Hawaiian guitar in a band during the 1940s, at which time he first met his wife, Fern. He was a talented carpenter, and hand made beautiful furniture, doll houses, jewelry boxes, and much more for his family. His sweet nature was enjoyed by a very large family and many friends, and he will be greatly missed. Sentiments from former pupils at Holy Rosary School include: "I remember Mr. Goguen well. I went to Holy Rosary in the 70's. He was always a hard worker and so dedicated. They don't make them like him anymore." Another: "I loved Mr Goguen--he was so nice. Such a great man. I also took sewing lessons after school from his wife....loved them both!" He is survived by his wife of 71 years: Fern Tanguay Goguen; daughter: Helen Tucker of High Point, NC; son and his wife: Rene and Ann Goguen of Athol, MA; daughter and her husband: Annette and Paul Dymek of Denton, NC; daughter and her husband: Jeannie and Steve Walsh of Chapel Hill, NC; son and his wife: Art and Suisei Goguen of Monument, CO; son and his wife: Don and Diane Goguen of Fountain Hills, AZ; brother and his wife: Gerry and Alice Goguen of East Templeton, MA; five grandsons: Rene Goguen, Bob Lajoie, Craig Goguen, Keith Lajoie, and Beren Goguen; 12 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
