Edna Pearce Heath, age 96, of Carolina Estates in Greensboro died Thursday, March 14, 2013 at her home.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at 3:00 pm at Balfour Baptist Church where she was the last surviving charter member. The church is located at 1644 North Fayetteville Street, Asheboro. Services will be conducted by Rev. Don Clement and Rev. Kenneth L. Reaves. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Asheboro.
Mrs. Heath was born in Randolph County on September 19, 1916 to John C. Pearce and Annie Bulla Pearce. Edna and husband Ross Elzy Heath, Jr. were married in 1939. They moved from Baltimore, MD to Greensboro in 1952. While living in Baltimore, they were both charter members of the Middle River Baptist Church. After moving to Greensboro, they both joined the New Bessemer Baptist Church where they were active members until their death.
In addition to her parents of Asheboro, Edna was predeceased by her husband Ross of Greensboro, son Michael Heath of King George, VA, brother John Pearce of Asheboro, and sisters Margaret Moody and Frances Burkhart both of Asheboro.
She is survived by one son, John R. Heath and Eleanor of Jackson, NJ; grandchildren, Heather Heath of Cary, NC, Ian and Sarah Heath of Idaho, and Melane Heath Canupp and Brooke Canupp of Greensboro, NC; daughter-in-law, Jane Heath of King George, VA; grandchildren, Sherry Heath Mills and Nelson Mills of King George, VA, April Heath Parsons and Kevin Parsons of Richmond, VA, and Shannon and Suzi Heath of Virginia; 11 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Lucy P. Parrish of Greensboro, NC, and Bonnie P. Davenport of Asheboro, NC.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 16, 2013 from 3:00-6:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC.
Mrs. Heath requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the New Bessemer Baptist Church Building Fund, 4115 Hines Chapel Rd., McLeansville, NC 27301.
