Mrs. Edith Walker Junkins Ogburn of Asheboro passed away Monday, July 2, 2012 at the age of 75.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 6, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd with the Rev. Dr. Randal A. Foster officiating. The family will visit with friends in the Parish Hall following the service.
Edie was born on August 20th, 1936 in Laurens, South Carolina. She graduated from Winthrop University and worked in Charlotte, N.C. until her marriage in 1961 when she moved to Asheboro and lived for more than 51 years. She worked for Belk Buying Service, Stedman Corporation and Acme McCrary Corporation.
Edie was a faithful member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. She was also a member of the Colonel Andrew Balfour Chapter of the DAR and the Sorosis Book Club. Throughout the years Edie served as treasurer for the Sorosis Book Club, Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and Williamscreek Townhomes. Edie also spent many years working with her husband at his law practice.
Edie was preceded in death by her parents, David Pierce Martin and Frances Walker Martin, and her brother John Franklin Martin.
Surviving are her husband of 51 years, John Nelson Ogburn, Jr.; son, John Nelson Ogburn III and wife Martha of Asheboro; son Timothy Martin Ogburn and wife Amanda of Anderson, Indiana; daughter, Anne Walker Ogburn Ladd and husband Michael of Huntersville, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Mary Walker Ogburn, Claire Elizabeth Ogburn, and Davis Walker Ladd; sister, Jane Martin Childs and brother in law Ted L. Childs of Clarkesville, Georgia.
The family would like to thank Edie's loving and ever-faithful friends for their visits. Special gratitude to Hospice of Randolph County as well as to Clapp's Nursing Center for their years of excellent care.
