A man of many interests… family, friends, church, golf, fishing, Tar Heel basketball.
Wesley Earle Chapman, aged 89, passed away peacefully at the Randolph Hospice House in the early hours of Friday, June 6, 2014. He was born in Pelzer, South Carolina and grew up in Lowland and Greensboro, North Carolina. He graduated from Greensboro Senior High School in 1942 and enlisted in the Army; serving his country faithfully during World War II. He then went on to study accounting at King's Business School. He was a dedicated employee for several corporations during his career, ultimately taking over his stepfather's business when he could no longer work.
Sixty-three years ago, Earle married the gal who caught his eye every day as she passed by his office. He and Betsy reared three children and spent many happy years living first in Greensboro, then Burlington, and, in 1974, restoring and moving into Betsy's family's homeplace in Randolph County.
Earle is survived by his loving wife, Betsy, of Millboro; a son, Chips Chapman, of Burlington; a daughter, Betsy Moses, of Hendersonville; a daughter, Jenny Chapman, of Greensboro; grandchildren Elizabeth Pruett, of Greenville, SC; Rebecca Moses and Wesley Moses, of Hendersonville.
He was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, Asheboro, where he served as Deacon, Elder, and active participant on many committees. He was also a 40-year member of the Westminster Sunday School Class.
Earle Chapman… a man loved by many.
A memorial service is planned for Monday, June 9, at 11:00am in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church in Asheboro, honoring his life. A reception will follow for friends and family in the church's Small Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations to be made to the Randolph Hospice House or First Presbyterian Church, Asheboro.
