ASHEBORO - Dwight Rives Pennell, Sr., age 69 of Asheboro died Saturday, August 7, 2010 at Randolph Hospital. Mr. Pennell was born July 13, 1941 in Oxford, NC the son of Obie and Dorothy Holbrook Pennell. Dwight was a native of Oxford, NC. He drove a truck for several companies including: Lucks Beans, Harrelson Rubber Co., B. B. Walker Shoe Company and retired from Prestige Fabricators. He loved to fish and was a former member of the Central Carolina Bass Masters. He is preceded in death by his parents Obie and Dorothy Holbrook Pennell and his brother, Obie Pennell Jr. He is survived by his wife: Rebecca Williamson Pennell; son and his wife, Dee and Nikki Pennell of Randleman, NC; son and his wife, Jeff and Rhonda Pennell of Emerald Isle, NC; stepdaughter, Wendy Voncannon of Asheboro, NC; grandson and his wife, Cory and Savannah Pennell of Randleman, NC; granddaughter, Mary Beth Pennell of Randleman, NC; grandson, Tanner Pennell of Randleman, NC; granddaughter, Maggie Pennell of Emerald Isle, NC; step granddaughter, Tori Swaney of Asheboro, NC; great-grandson, Brantley Pennell of Randleman; sister and her husband, Brenda and Don Smith of Asheboro, NC; brother: Bobby Pennell of Asheboro, NC; niece and her husband, Kristie and Daryn Trogdon of Asheboro, NC and niece and her husband, Karen and Travis Schalesky of Asheboro, NC. The family will receive friends Monday, August 9, 2010 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro. At other times, 569 Halifax Street, Asheboro. The funeral will be held Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro with Rev. Kenneth L. Reaves and Dr. Neal Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Randolph Cancer Center or Hospice of Randolph County.
