Dr. W.T. "Bill" Auman, age 71, of Greensboro died Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at his home.
The family will be conducting the funeral services on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Dr. Auman was born in Asheboro on March 21, 1942 to Howard Frank Auman, Sr. and Lucille Crisp Auman, who preceded him in death. Dr. Auman earned Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in history as well as a Master of Science in Library Science. His vast knowledge of local and state history have been published in North Carolina Historical Review, books on history, archives, and genealogy. He was the historian for the Andrew Auman Family Reunion and the author of "The Diary of Mary Elizabeth Auman" which covers some of Seagrove and Why Not history. His latest book is at the publisher's now on North Carolina's "Inner Civil War." He was a life long historian to say the least. He was also a past member of the Randolph County Genealogist Society.
He is survived by his brother, Frank Auman, Jr. and Karen Hurley of Greensboro; sister, Anne Auman Brown and husband Richard of Pittsboro; nephews and nieces, Frankie Auman and wife Lindsey, Shannon Recker and husband Frank, Summer Estes and husband Kevin, Tiffany Auman, Debbie Mullis, Billy Leviner and wife Sheila, John Leviner and wife Lisa, Andy Leviner and wife Lisa, Justin Brown and wife Teresa, and Holly Hussey and husband Johnathan ; great nephews and nieces, Avery, Emily, Abigail, Levi, August, Jalen, Giovanna, Tyler and wife Amy, Jeremy, Cody, Dylan, Adam, Amber, Chasity, Chase, Jacob, Sara Kate, Addison, Chris, Trent, Curtis, Jordan, Jerrett, Ashley, and Jax.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 3, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC.
