Dr. G. Thomas Davis, 80, of 1259 Oakmont Drive, died June 12, 2012 at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home.
Born January 23, 1932, to George Thomas and Bessie Leath Davis in Yanceyville, NC, he moved to Burlington as a small boy with his parents and 5 older sisters, all of whom preceded him in death.
He graduated from Burlington High School in 1950 and served in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman from 1950 to 1954. He attended Undergraduate School at UNC-CH until 1958, and graduated from UNC-CH Medical School in 1962. After a 4-year residency program in Nashville, TN, Dr. Davis moved to Asheboro and joined Dr. Harvey Adams in the practice of obstetrics and gynecology.
Dr. Davis was an active member of Central United Methodist Church as long as his health permitted, serving as Chairman of the Administrative Board, Chairman of the Staff Parish Relations Committee, and as a long-time member of the Board of Ushers. He was a former member and past president of Asheboro Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carole Overman Davis of the home; and by sons Earl Davis of Carrboro, and Dr. John Davis and his wife Page of Advance; and also by many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Central United Methodist Church, 300 South Main St., Asheboro with Dr. Mark J. Key officiating. Burial will be held at 2:00 PM at Pine Hill Cemetery in Burlington with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 15, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro.
