Husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, uncle, *physician*, Naval Officer, Dr. John Capers Glenn, Jr., age 90, of 1302 Cox Road, Crossroad Retirement Community, Asheboro formerly of Troy, died peacefully Friday, February 5, 2010 at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro, N.C.
Dr. Glenn was born November 13, 1919 in Atlanta, GA, the son of John C. and Ethel (Haskew) Glenn, Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ezzell Glenn, a son, Robert Jay Glenn and brother, James Glenn.
Dr. Glenn was a graduate of Duke University, performed his intern work at John Hopkins University. He practiced radiology for 50 years was recognized as one of the finest radiologists in the Southeast and wrote numerous manuals for radiological equipment. He was a civilian doctor 13 years for the Army where he served in Alaska, Oklahoma, and Kentucky. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II.
In 1938, when the US boycotted the Olympics, Dr. Glenn, a hurdler, chose not to compete even as he had trained with such notable athletes as Babe Didrikson and Glenn H. Carragher. He served on numerous boards and was known for his kindness and generosity to numerous charities. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Troy.
Dr. Glenn is survived by three daughters: Rebecca G. Springer of Charlotte, Nancy G. Collins and husband, Barry of Charlotte, Susan G. Yates of Troy; two sisters: Loraine G. Simms of Daleville, VA; Sarah Modean G. Hill of Tacoma, WA; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Dr. Glenn will be held Thursday at 1:00 pm at Trinity United Methodist Church, 239 N. Russell Street, Troy, with Rev. Bobby Tyson, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery, S. Main St., Troy.

The family is grateful for the comfort and care provided by Hospice of Randolph County and physicians at Randolph Primary Care, especially Dr. Jason Van Eyke, Dr. Saad Amin, and Dr. Hadi Ladak, during his illness.
