FRANKLINVILLE--Dr. James Sherman Hampton, 82, of Franklinville, NC died September 19, 2013 at Kindred Hospital of Greensboro, NC.
The family will receive friends Sunday, September 22, 2013 from 2:00-3:00 PM at Grays Chapel United Methodist Church, 5056 N.C. Hwy 22 North, Franklinville, NC. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM with Rev. Nathan Snider and Rev. Alanda Harris officiating. Burial will be Monday, September 23, 2013 at 4:00 PM in the Hampton Memorial Cemetery in Murphy, NC.
Dr. Hampton was born in Murphy, NC the son of James Hilary and Bessie Tuttle Hampton. He is a graduate of Warren Wilson College and Lincoln Chiropractic College. He was a retired chiropractor, having practiced in Brevard, Randleman, and Murphy, NC. He was a loving husband, grandfather, and great grandfather and for the past 18 years has been a devoted caregiver to his wife of 61 years. Dr. Hampton was a veteran of the US Navy. Dr. Hampton was predeceased by his parents and 2 sisters, Marcella Hampton Smith and Ruth Hampton Smith.
Dr. Hampton is survived by his wife, Nancy Thomas Hampton of the home; one son, Gerald T. Hampton and his wife Beth of Franklinville, NC; 2 granddaughters, Lora Hampton Vann and her husband, Joshua of Ocracoke, NC, Rebecca Hampton Lunn and her husband, Dillon of Raleigh, NC; and one little great grandson, Isaac Vann of Ocracoke, NC. He is also survived by a sister, Helen Hampton Lochaby of Murphy, NC; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Grays Chapel United Methodist Church, 5056 N.C. Hwy 22 North, Franklinville, NC 27248 or the charity of one's choice.
