Dr. James Brady Kinlaw, age 99, of Asheboro, NC, died August 31, 2017 at Hospice House in Asheboro. He was born in Bladen County, NC on August 23, 1918. He was the husband of the late Lena McLamb (Billie) Kinlaw. He was the son of the late James Elmer and Cora Brady Kinlaw. He was a 54 year member of the First Baptist Church, Altavista, Virginia, and was a veteran of WWII, serving as a Captain in the Army Medical Corps for 23 months.
Dr. Kinlaw was a graduate of Wake Forest College, Temple University School of Medicine, and the University of North Carolina School of Public Health.
He practiced as a General Practitioner in Rowland, NC for 16 years before he joined the Virginia State Health Department where he was Health Director for Lynchburg and surrounding counties. He later served in the same capacity in Danville and Pittsylvania County until his retirement in 1983.
He is survived by sons, Dr. James Brady Kinlaw, Jr. and wife Wendy of Asheboro, NC, Jerry Alan Kinlaw and wife Judy also of Asheboro, NC, and Junius Michael Kinlaw and wife Johnna of Altavista, VA. Also surviving are granddaughters, Whitney Kinlaw Shevlin and her husband Ben Shevlin of Phoenix, AZ, Mallory Kinlaw Nardin and her husband Matteo Nardin of Rome, Italy, and a grandson, Michael Brady Kinlaw and his wife Dawn of Jefferson, GA. He has two great granddaughters, Ellie Grace and Abbie Duncan Kinlaw of Jefferson, GA, and two great grandsons, Brady Patrick Shevlin and Tate Michael Shevlin of Phoenix, AZ. There are many special nieces and nephews.
Dr. Kinlaw was preceded in death by his wife Billie, and by brothers, Dr. Murray C. Kinlaw, and Gordon B. Kinlaw, and by sisters, Ella Johnson Peterson, and Dorothy Thomas Smith.
Dr. Kinlaw and his family are so grateful to the staff of Hospice of Randolph County who provided exemplary and compassionate care for both Brady and Billie during their illnesses.
A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, September 9th at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church on Bedford Avenue in Altavista, Virginia.
