Clarence Douglas Kimes, age 72, of Asheboro died Monday, March 30, 2015 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro. Mr. Kimes was born July 7, 1942 in Randolph County to Clarence Redding and Lena Wincie Buie Kimes. He was a 1960 graduate of Franklinville High School. He served with the U. S. Army Reserves from 1960 until 1968. Doug worked as a Transportation Highway Engineer with the North Carolina Department of Transportation and retired after 42 years of service. In addition to his N.C. D.O.T. career he was also a N.C. Professional Land Surveyor since 1975. Doug was an active and life time member of the Franklinville United Methodist church serving on various committees, choir member and played on the church league softball, basketball and volleyball teams throughout the years. Doug enjoyed trips to the beach and mountains with his family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Kimes was preceded in death by his sister, Gloria Kimes Jones Evans. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dianne Underwood Kimes; sons, Dennis Kimes and wife Lorie and their children Tyler, Jessica and Makenzie of Concord, Chad Kimes and wife Amy and their daughter Emma of Hampstead; brother, Frederick Kimes and wife Martha of Concord. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 1, 2015 from 6 - 8 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:00 PM at Franklinville United Methodist Church, 227 W. Main St., Franklinville with Rev. J. Harold Hammond and Rev. David Christy officiating. Burial with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard will be in Cedar Falls United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family would like to express their gratitude to Mr. Kimes' home health caregiver, Nurse Betty, for her kindness and care shown during his illness.
