Dorothy Ward "Dot" Voncannon, age 92, of Asheboro died Monday, June 15, 2015 at Randolph Hospital.
Mrs. Voncannon was born in Randolph County on August 9, 1922 to Gurney and Mamie Routh Ward. She was a graduate of Providence High School where she played on the state champion basketball team. Dot was retired from Rampon Products and was a member of Central United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years Lewis Voncannon, four brothers, and two sisters. Dot loved the Asheboro Farmers Market. She was a great cook, known for her country style steak and gravy, yeast rolls, and cornbread.
She is survived by her sons, Ron Voncannon and wife Monica of Pfafftown, NC, Gary Voncannon and wife Pam of Charlotte, NC; 5 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at 5:00 pm at Oaklawn Cemetery, 737 Albemarle Road, Asheboro with Dr. Terry L. Matthews officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the gravesite.
At the request of the family, please come dressed casual and appropriately for the weather.
