Dorothy Lee Bates McGrady, lovingly known as "Granny Dot" and "Ms. Hollywood," passed away peacefully at Randolph Hospice House on May 6, 2018 at the age of 86.
Dot was born to Walker and Dovie Bates in Randleman, NC on July 19, 1931. She was employed for many years in the textile industry but will always be remembered for her famous baked goods.
Dot was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Albert J. McGrady and their son, Glenn McGrady.
She is survived by her daughter Audrey of Lake Luzerne, NY, adopted daughter Joyce Allred of Asheboro, grandson Nicolas McGrady of NY, granddaughter Emma of Asheboro, adopted granddaughter Tina, brother Walker Bates Jr. and sister-in-law Eva Bates of Randleman, NC.
Extended family includes daughters-in-law Ann Limongello and Lois McGrady as well as many adored nieces and nephews.
"Dot" was spunky, spirited and sometimes very silly. A devout Christian, she will always be remembered for her open door, open oven, and open heart.
Dot's family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 pm on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro and other times at her home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 11:00 am at Whitehall Evangelical Methodist Church, 3335 Wesleyan Road in Randleman with Rev. Harold Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
