Dorothy Harper Garner, age 92, of Asheboro died Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Randolph Hospice House. Dot was born and raised in Chatham County to Tandy and Fleta Harper. She graduated from Bennett High School as salutatorian. Dot was the organist for several years at Bennett Christian Church. She retired after 40 years of service from Carolina Power and Light Company in Asheboro. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Garner and sister, Lounette Upchurch. She is survived by sisters-in-law, Epsie Needham of Ramseur, Edna Garner of Asheboro and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 5, 2014 from 1:00 - 1:45 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM at Oaklawn Cemetery, 737 Albemarle Road, Asheboro. The family would like to express a special thanks to her caregivers, Janelle McCrary and Diane Poplin for the loving care given to her over the past few years and to the staff at Randolph Hospice House. Memorials may be made to Alzheimers Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215-3220.
