Doris Helen "Nanny" Escoe Kennedy, age 90, of Asheboro passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at her home.
Mrs. Kennedy was born in Belton, SC on January 24, 1926 to Roy and Gladys Shaw Escoe. She was a graduate of Anderson Nursing School and continued her education at Western Piedmont Community College. She also attended Lee College. Doris was employed as a Registered Nurse and was a member of Sunset Avenue Church of God in Asheboro. She ministered alongside her husband of 50 years, pastoring 10 Church of God congregations in North Carolina and Alabama. Serving her Lord faithfully she continued to minister after the death of her husband to her community here in the states and the people of Indonesia. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Paul S. Kennedy, son, Dwight Kennedy, granddaughter, Robin D. Kennedy, and brother, Gerald "Bud" Escoe.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen K. Shackelford (Dwayne) of Asheboro, NC; sons, Rev. Paul "Stan" Kennedy (Sharon) of Florence, SC, Keith Escoe Kennedy (Theresa) of Lumberton, NC; Godson, Dr. H. Franklin Thomas, Jr. of Asheboro, NC; grandchildren, Rev. Jay Kennedy (Jennifer), Shelly Kennedy, Carly Shackelford, Emilee Shackelford; great grandchildren, Jason Kennedy, Jr., Christopher Kennedy, Tyler Kennedy, Rachel Kennedy; and brother, Jonathan Escoe of Belton, SC.
The family would like to thank Nanny's caregivers for their love and compassion, especially to Evelyn Rodman and Michelle Vanwinkle.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 3:00-4:30 pm at Sunset Avenue Church of God, 900 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. Funeral services will follow on Sunday at 4:30 pm at Sunset Avenue Church of God with Rev. Matt Higgs, Rev. Stan Kennedy, and Rev. Jay Kennedy officiating. A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 11:00 am in the Center United Methodist Church Cemetery in Sanford, NC.
