Doris Miller Dowd, age 76, of 876 Howard Ave., Asheboro died Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2009 at 3:00 PM at Cross Road Baptist Church, 1566 Old Cox Road, Asheboro with Pastor Johnny R. Henderson and Rev. Greg Arnold officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park. Mrs. Dowd was a native of Randolph County and was a member of Cross Road Baptist Church. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse graduate of Randolph Community College and was formerly employed with Randolph Hospital and Brady Dodge. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Hazel Davis Miller and her brothers, Lloyd and Max Miller. She is survived by her husband, Fred "Jerry" Dowd of the home; sons, Bryan Dowd and his wife Libby of Florence, SC; Ben Dowd and his wife Robin of Burlington, NC; granddaughter, Candace Dowd of Asheboro, NC; sisters, Zelma Reeder of Central Falls, NC, Carlene Lamb of Asheboro, NC, Phyllis Lewellyn of Asheboro, NC, Dianne Hayes of Winston-Salem, NC and brother, Steve Miller of Asheboro, NC. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 18, 2009 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC and other times at her home. Memorials may be made to the Cross Road Baptist Church Building Fund, 1566 Old Cox Road, Asheboro, NC 27205.
