Doris was a native of Guilford County. She was born the 7th of October 1933 to Thomas Lemuel Myers and Margaret Rouse Myers. She lived many years in Randolph County. She kept in touch with her father's family and her mother's family until most passed away. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Thomas L. Myers, Jr., her "Aunt Lottie" and "Uncle Tom" Brooks and their daughter, Betty Brooks to whom she is eternally grateful for all their love and guidance in her growing years and throughout her entire life. She was also preceded in death by her "Second Mother" Ethel (Lamb) Frazier who was always there for her and a great inspiration to her in all things.
Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Lynn (Edwards) and Jimmy Phillips of Bear Creek,; son and daughter-in-law, Allen Earl Edwards Jr. and wife Robette (Johnson) of Level Cross and their daughter, Stephanie Jane Edwards of Greensboro, and her brother William ( Bill) Myers of Huntington Beach, CA. She also leaves behind her friends "like sisters" from childhood to present Billie (Rockett) Murray of York, VA, Etta Bischer Davis of Cucamonga, CA, Peggy "Garner" Hall of Myrtle Beach, SC, Amy (Hayes) Lee of Colorado Spring, CO and Sue (Snyder) Harvell of Greenville, SC. Her genealogical friend Jo (Barharm) Barrett, Don McCaskill and Lea Morris. She leaves behind her wonderful "on call" neighbors and friends, Brenda and David Scearce, Peggy Bowman, Janice Hight and Ursula Hunsucker. Also left behind is her own package of unconditional love in the form of her little dog "Chu Chu".
She was a graduate of Randleman High School Class of 1952, a very close knit class then and now and joyously maintained long correspondence over the years with many.
She loved quilting, basket weaving, sewing, doll making and making doll houses. She loved to travel and visited 47 states and 17 countries.
Above all those interests, she had a love for genealogy. She visited older family friends and relatives to hear all she could about the past. She was instrumental in getting the cemeteries in Randolph County located and logged into books for Randolph Library through the genealogical society. She also located and printed Montgomery County and upper Moore County cemetery books until she was unable.
The family will receive friends Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 6-8 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 21, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don McCaskill officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park
