Mr. Donald Reese Yow, the son of Herbert & Rena Yow passed on August 11, 2011.
He had been in declining health for the past several years. Donald was born in Randolph County and served in Korean War after he was drafted in 1950. Mr. Yow attended Randleman High School and was retired from Lowe's foods after 31 years. He was a former member of Randleman Civitan Club and on the board of Randleman Housing Authority, a member of Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church and Cedars of Lebanon. Donald would drive the van and take groups on trips. He was very much of a family man and loved his grandchildren and his nieces and nephews.
Donald was married to Ann H. Yow in 1961 and is survived by her and two children; Donald Gregory Yow of Randleman and Trisha Ann Henderson and her husband Todd of Franklinville; brothers, Glenn Yow, Bobby Yow and his wife Evelyn all of Asheboro; sisters; Jean McCollum, Peggy Brookshire and her husband Joe all of Randleman; three grandchildren, William Reece Henderson, Kynley Anna Henderson and Macey Nikole Henderson all of Franklinville. In addition to his parents Donald is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jack Mccollum and sister-in-law Kitty Yow.
Donald was a huge Duke University sports fan. He played semi-pro basketball in his younger years and was an avid bowler and bowled on a league regularly. Donald played baseball and was in a bow & arrow club. He played golf until he was not able and loved water skiing. He loved the beach and traveled there often. His main therapy in his adult life was working in the yard.
The family will receive friends Saturday, August 13, 2011 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 South Main Street, Randleman, NC. The funeral service will be held Sunday, August 14, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, 119 West River Dr., Randleman with Rev. Carol Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family wants to give a "special thanks" to Dr. Robert Dough and his staff and to Hospice of Randolph for their help and care during Don's illness.
