Donald Ray "Don" Bumgarner, age 61, of 4517 Bachelor Creek Rd., Asheboro went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Randolph Hospital.
The family will receive friends Friday, November 23, 2012 from 12:00-2:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. Funeral services will follow on Friday at 2:00 pm at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Danny Jarrell and Rev. Barry Presnell officiating. Burial will be in the Bumgarner Family Cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
Mr. Bumgarner was born in Randolph County on December 1, 1950 to Ralph "Boots" and Virginia Frye Bumgarner. Don married his childhood sweetheart, Brenda Shortsleeve and they were married for 42 years. He was a natural born truck driver and was retired from Carolina Southern Trucking. Don was a former member of the National Guard and a member of To God Be The Glory Church where he was a Sunday School teacher and a Deacon. He considered himself a work in progress and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Brenda Shortsleeve Bumgarner, sons, Bryan Bumgarner and his wife Bonnie of Asheboro, Matthew Bumgarner of Asheboro; daughters, Stacey Hodge and her husband William of Asheboro, Jaclyn Bumgarner of the home; mother, Virginia Frye Bumgarner of Graham; 12 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brothers, Lee Bumgarner and his wife Monet of Manila, Phillipines, Ken Bumgarner of Asheboro; sisters, Sue Burke and her husband Lynn of Asheboro, Ann Hogan and her husband Ricky of Denton, Bonnie Robbins and her husband Chris of Asheboro; and his beloved dog, Maggie.
