Donald Scurlock Bulla, age 79, of Asheboro died Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Randolph Health & Rehabilitation, Asheboro.
Mr. Bulla was born April 1, 1934 in Asheboro to Emery and Martha Scurlock Bulla. He was a 1952 graduate of Asheboro High School and a graduate of Asheboro Business College. Mr. Bulla served in the US Navy during the Korean War, retired from Black and Decker and was a member of Charlotte United Methodist Church. He served as president of the Bulla Reunion and president of the Randolph County Genealogical Society. His hobbies were golf, genealogy and travel (visiting eighteen countries and forty-eight states). Mr. Bulla co-authored with Juanita Kesler Links in the Bulla Chain and compiled Visiting with Ralph Bulla: Courier Tribune Articles 1954 - 1987. In addiion to his parents, Mr. Bulla was preceded in death by his sisters, Bessie McPherson, Sadie Dawson, Velma McGill and Marie Lewallen and brothers, Otis, Ralph, Kenneth and Alfred (Bud) Bulla.
He is survived by brother, R. Frank Bulla and his wife Vann of Asheboro; sister-in-law, Rose Bulla of Asheboro; brother-in-law, David Lewallen of Asheboro; friend, Sue Vuncannon of Asheboro.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 23, 2013 from 6 to 8 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Charlotte United Methodist Church with Rev. Angel Christ officiating. Burial with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard will follow in the church cemetery.
