William D. "Don" Morris, age 75, of 513 Broughton Street, Troy died Thursday, September 27, 2012.
Don was born May 14, 1937 at Troy, NC, the son of Anthony William and Bertha Williams Morris. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and served as a deacon, music director, choir member and on numerous committees.
Don was past-president of the Troy Chamber of Commerce. He was a long-time member of the Troy Lions Club and a past-president. He served on the Troy Beautification Committee and was a member of the 1976 Centennial Celebration Committee.
Don was owner and operator of Sears Catalog Store in Troy from 1975 through1992 and received numerous awards for sales volume throughout his career with Sears. He was retired from First Bank in Troy and was a part-time employee of Pugh Funeral Home. He served in the US Army from May, 1955 until May, 1958. He is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Marie Dennis Morris of the home; one daughter, Deborah Morris Henshaw and husband, Van of Columbus, GA; his uncle, Rev. James Williams of Troy.
The family will receive friends Sunday, September 30, 2012 from 6 pm - 8 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Troy; other times at the home. A funeral will be Monday, October1, 2012 at 3 pm at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 303 Lambert Road, Biscoe. Burial, with military rites provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard, will be at Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 569 Liberty Hill Church Road, Mt. Gilead.
