Della Lee Jamieson, 95, of Asheboro, and Tierra Verde, Fla., passed away peacefully May 5, 2019 in Florida.
Della Lee was born Oct. 13, 1923 in Oxford N.C. to John Rossiter and Carrie Harris Fizer and was raised in Charlotte, N.C. She was a 1946 graduate from Greensboro College, the 4th of 5 generations to attend Greensboro College. She later attended Wake Forest University toward a Master's Degree in English and also University of North Carolina-Greensboro earning a Master's Degree in Art.
Early years of her career she taught English and Art in High Point and Granite Quarry N.C., and later became Art Supervisor for the Asheboro City Schools, teaching in the five elementary city schools for many years.
Della Lee and husband Herbert travelled the world extensively and also visited all 50 states of the USA. Della Lee had a lifetime love of horses. She started riding at age two and rode until age 87.
Della Lee also had a great love of animals, flowers, the arts, swimming, and travel. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the food kitchen, and was active in the United Methodist Women. Della Lee also enjoyed competitive games-particularly Scrabble.
Della Lee was predeceased by her parents, John Rossiter and Carrie Harris Fizer; husband, the Rev Herbert M. Jamieson, Sr.; brother, John Rossiter Fizer and grandson, Joseph Jamieson.
Della Lee is survived by Herbert Jamieson, Jr. of San Antonio, Texas, Susan and Steve Maguire of Granite Canyon Wyo., Barbara Adams of Tierra Verde, Fla., and grandchildren, Christy, Jocelyn, Matthew, Colin, Aisling, Brighid, Brendan, Winnie, Marcus, Shaunta, and also 14 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at First United Methodist Church Asheboro, N.C. at 1 p.m. on May 11, 2019.
