David Edward Handley

David Edward Handley, age 78, of Asheboro died Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the Randolph Hospice House. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 15, 2013 from 11:30 AM-1:30 PM at Balfour Baptist Church, 1644 North Fayetteville Street, Asheboro, NC and other times at his home. Funeral services will follow on Thursday at 2:00 PM at Balfour Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth L. Reaves officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Mr. Handley was born in Britton, MI on July 3, 1935 to Edward Goodwin and Margaret Fisher Handley. David served his country in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division. He was retired from Energizer Battery after 46 years. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brothers Thomas and Edward Handley. David was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed walking and being outside. David was loved dearly and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Hilda Pugh Handley; daughters, Cynthia Handley Moran and her husband Rickey of Asheboro, Ann Handley Councilman of Asheboro; grandson, David Gunner Councilman of Asheboro; sisters, Eleanor Price of Britton, MI, Linda Quesenbury of Clair, MI; and brothers, Richard Handley and Robert Handley both of Britton, MI.
