James David Cox, age 82, of 505 East Balfour Ave., Asheboro died Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at his home.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Marion Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
Mr. Cox was a native of Chatham County and retired from Centel Telephone Company after 40 years of service. He was a veteran of the US Army in the Korean War and was a 33rd degree mason with Masonic Lodge 699. David was preceded in death by his daughter, Robin Cox, his parents, Winfred and Lenna Cox and two brothers, Paul and Worth Cox.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Staley Cox; sons, Tony Cox of Asheboro and J.T. Cox and his fiancée Rachel Ingle of Asheboro; daughters, Kelly Foland and her husband Mark of Asheboro and Micki Strickland and her fiancée James Johnson of Asheboro; grandchildren, Justin Cox, Franklin Cox, Preston Strickland, Makayla Ingle, Trinity Cox, MacKenzie Strickland, and MacKayla Strickland; brothers, Grady Cox of Asheboro and Clifford Cox of Columbia, SC; and sisters, Nina Cox of Asheboro and Ina Staley of Cary.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC and other times at his home.
