David Jonathan Cecil, Sr., age 86, of 1306 Old Cox Rd., Apt. 203, Asheboro died Friday, September 7, 2012 at Wesley Long Community Hospital.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at 4:00 pm at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro with Pastor Johnny R. Henderson officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
Mr. Cecil was born in Guilford County on January 12, 1926 to Claude Lee and Blanch Goff Cecil. David served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater and was a member of the Jolly Rogers. He was a self-employed builder and was a member of Camp Herman Baptist Church in Browns Summit. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife Martha Caddell Cecil and his sister Jewel Cox. David enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by his daughters, Jan Cox of Asheboro, NC, Jo Glidewell and her husband Paul of Liberty, NC; son, David Cecil, Jr. of McLeansville, NC; grandchildren, Robbie Cox, Phillip Glidewell, Stephen Cox, Kaelyn Cecil, and Madelyn Cecil; great grandchildren, Andrew Cox, Sydney Cox, Avery Cox, Davis Cox, and Charles Glidewell; sister, Faye Adams of Lexington, SC; brothers, Edward Cecil of Bethel, MO and Franklin Cecil of Level Cross, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
