David Elliott Birkhead

David Elliott Birkhead, age 92, of Fremont, NC passed away on November 21, 2023 at Helping Hands Assisted Living in Goldsboro, NC.
 
Mr. Birkhead was born in Asheboro on May 27, 1931 to John Watson Birkhead, Jr. and Margaret Redding Birkhead.  David was a 1958 graduate of UNC-CH and proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force.  David retired from ACME United Corp as an Industrial Engineer.  David loved aviation and worked at Piedmont Aviation before his job at Acme. He also built several airplanes as a hobbyist.  In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his sister, Anne Birkhead Worsley and his niece, Deborah Ellen Worsley.  David was a great guy who could make a friend anywhere he went.  He enjoyed fishing and building boats.
 
He is survived by his close friends, Cathy Marlow (Jeff) of Goldsboro and Hunter Sullivan (Betsy) of Wilson.
 
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Oaklawn Cemetery with Marcus Wall officiating.
