James David "Dave" Garwood, age 51, of Sophia died Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Randolph Hospital.
The family will receive friends Saturday, January 12, 2013 from 11:00 am-12:00 noon at Sawyersville Wesleyan Church, 157 Sawyersville Rd., Asheboro, NC and at other times at the home of Lewis and Doris Davis. Funeral services will follow on Saturday at 12:00 noon at Sawyersville Wesleyan Church with Rev. Darrell Rabon, Rev. Jeff Garner, and Richard Brooks officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Garwood was a native of Mocksville. He was a member of Sawyersville Wesleyan Church where he was a Sunday School teacher and Sound Technician. Dave worked as a Disc Jockey in radio for nineteen years. Dave was a former county committee member for Relay for Life and was known in Asheboro for working in the Sawyersville Scoop Shack for Relay for Life. Dave enjoyed volunteering at Joy FM as a Disc Jockey on Saturday night.
He is survived by his wife, Angela Davis Garwood; mother, Dot Garwood of Mocksville; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lewis and Doris Davis of Sophia; brother-in-law, Rick Davis and his wife Gail of Asheboro; sister-in-law, Tami Garner and her husband Duffy of Denton; nieces, Kayla Davis and Danielle Garner; and faithful pet companion, Sam. He was preceded in death by his father James Garwood.
