Thurman Darrell Robbins, age 90, of Asheboro died Friday, December 2, 2016 at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home in Asheboro.
Mr. Robbins was born May 23, 1926 in Asheboro, NC, the son of Everette and Katrina Bertha Barnes Robbins. He was a member of West Bend United Methodist Church where he was active in the choir for many years. He was formerly employed with Acme McCrary Hosiery Mill and was a retired carpenter. Darrell was preceded in death by his wife, Iris Spencer Robbins and his siblings, LaRue Johnston, Bynum Robbins, Waylon “Chick” Robbins, and Bowden “Goat” Robbins.
He is survived by his daughter, Penny Whitaker and her husband, Mike of Wilmington and his son: Ben Robbins of Fort Lauderdale, FL; grandson, Adam Whitaker of Wilmington and granddaughter Valerie Leahy of Boston, MA; great grandchildren, Spencer, Elinor, Shaefer, and Iris, brother, Hoyt Robbins of Asheboro.
The family will receive friends Monday, December 5, 2016 from 12:30-1:30 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. The funeral will follow at 2:00 PM at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kari L. Howard officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
