Darrell Lee Cooper, age 83, of Asheboro passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at the Randolph Hospice House.
Mr. Cooper was born in Randolph County on December 27, 1934 to Harry P. and Ella Mae Routh Cooper. Darrell served his country in the Army National Guard. He was formerly employed with C.C. "Red" Howell & Sons Paint Contractors, where he was affectionately known as "Mongoose" and Asheboro Building Supply. He was retired from Hedgecock Builders Supply. Darrell was a member of West Bend United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Howell Cooper; daughters, Ronda Gay Hunt of Asheboro, Fonda Kay Hughes and husband Ron of Wendell, and Jennifer Brower and husband David of Franklinville; sons, Chris Cooper and wife Mimi of Franklinville and Patrick Cooper and wife Dorothy of Asheboro; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; brother, Harry M. Cooper of Asheboro; brother-in-law, John Howell of High Point; and sisters-in-law, Sue King and husband Mike of Carolina Beach, Lib Howell of Asheboro, and Julia Faye Howell of Asheboro.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 10:00-11:00 am at West Bend United Methodist Church, 1080 Albemarle Road in Asheboro. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am at West Bend United Methodist Church with Rev. Kari Howard officiating.
