Daniel Robert "Dan" Whisnant, age 83, of Asheboro passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at his home.
Mr. Whisnant was born in Hickory, NC on April 17, 1936 to Fred and Alice Abernethy Whisnant. He was retired from Burlington Industries, now known as ITG (International Textile Group) after 46 years of service. Dan was a member of Balfour Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred Whisnant, Jr. and Jimmy Whisnant.
Dan loved his family, had a strong faith in God, and enjoyed golf. He was an avid fan of Nascar racing and enjoyed all sports in general. He and his wife of 62 years, Carolyn, spent many happy vacations traveling to different parts of the United States, as well as other countries.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Brittain Whisnant; son, Jeff Whisnant and wife Francoise Amado Whisnant of Greensboro; daughter, Penny Whisnant Stelljes and husband Dave Stelljes of Greensboro; grandchildren, Eric and Dylan Whisnant, and Sarah Stelljes; brothers, Ted, Jerry, and Joe Whisnant; and sisters, Vera Bowman and Ann Kanipe.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 24, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Balfour Baptist Church, 1642 North Fayetteville Street, Asheboro with Rev. Gary Mason and Rev. Mark Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park.
