Daniel Roger "Preacher Dan, The Oil Man" Neely, age 68, of 700 S. Main St., Apt. 100, Asheboro died Monday, March 16, 2009 at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 20, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alvin Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. Mr. Neely was a native of McDowell County, WV and was a former member of the Asheboro Lion's Club. He was the former pastor of Patterson Grove Christian Church in Ramseur for 18 years and was previously employed with Herlocker Oil Company which later became Randolph Oil Company, for which reason he was nicknamed "Preacher Dan, the Oil Man". He was a member of Crestview Wesleyan Church and attended Staley Wesleyan Church. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Walker Neely of the home; daughters, Mary Ball of Randleman, NC and Cindy Davis of Asheboro, NC; sister, Althena "Teen" Dollaeye of Archdale, NC; and 3 grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 19, 2009 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC and other times at his home.
