Daniel “Danny” Neal Simmons, 61, of Randleman, NC passed away on Wednesday, January 31st at High Point Medical Center with his loved ones by his side. Danny was born in High Point, NC on June 22, 1962, but grew up in Asheboro. He later moved to Randleman.
Danny was a loving husband, father, “PawPaw”, son, brother and friend. He spent many years behind the wheel of a dump truck and it seemed he never met a stranger. Danny loved playing practical jokes on people and could tell some pretty good stories of the crazy things he and his brothers did in their younger days. He was always ready to tell you a joke or say something to make you laugh and shake your head in disbelief.
He enjoyed fishing, listening to music, spending time with his family and watching NASCAR. Danny was the biggest Dale Earnhardt fan you’d ever meet.
Danny is survived by his wife of 36+ years, Annette, of the home; his four children: Daniel (Jessica) of Sanford, Felicia Linthicum (Jonathan) of Sophia, Matthew (Brittany) of Liberty and Ashley, of the home; three grandchildren: Braylen Linthicum, Rylie Simmons and River Simmons. He is also survived by his mother, Mildred Boyd of Asheboro; brothers Charles Simmons (Diane), Roger Simmons (Teresa) and Terry Simmons, all of Asheboro; and the sister he chose, Barbara Traversino of Sanford, NC. Danny is preceded in death by his father, Raeford Simmons, and infant grandson, Wyatt Cole Simmons.
The family would like to recognize Dr. Kaitlin C. Bevers and the rest of the Cardiac Thoracic Team at Duke University Hospital for their excellent care of our husband and father. Their placement of a stent made the last 7 weeks with him, possible. We’d also like to thank Randolph Hospital (Dr. Kumar) and Moore Regional Hospital (Dr. Tina Binazir) and all the wonderful nurses he had during his hospital admissions.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 3rd from 12:15 pm until 1:45 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 S. Main St. in Randleman. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow afterwards at Center Cross Baptist Church, 1789 Center Cross Church Rd, Asheboro, NC.
