Daniel Lacy Chisholm, Jr.

d. March 12, 2017

Daniel Lacy Chisholm Jr. (you may have known him as Junior or Chis) passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2017. He was born on November 16, 1935 to beloved parents Daniel Lacy and Vandie Williams Chisholm whom he treasured dearly and rightly so. Chisholm proudly served in the United States Army and never forgot that it is God and country that gave him the courage to do all things. Chisholm kept the peace (mostly) at Tommy's Drive Inn and eventually opened his own restaurant, Chisholm's Drive Inn where his food was really good and his wit was always on point. It was his hobby that could pull him away from the café, traveling around in his dump truck or on his tractor delivering a load of gravel or mulch, clearing a field, scraping an icy parking lot or driveway - always with a smile on his face. Chisholm was a life long member of Calvary United Methodist Church with family and friends who shared his joy for hearing God's word and where everybody took care of each other. The family wishes that all who read of his passing to remember the simple pleasures that Chisholm enjoyed and how truly special it is to be loved and love others. Work hard and appreciate the work of others. Be the kind of boss that your employees will learn from and smile about for years to come. Plant a garden for yourself and one for someone else. Sing. Pay attention to the flowers on the bypass, tree lined streets and green grass. Forgive someone's debt and tell no one. Hold your daughter's hand no matter how old she may be. Stand up straight. Eat breakfast with your best friends, have lunch with your siblings and enjoy Sunday dinner with your whole family. Use the pocket on your shirt to hold a toothpick or two or seven. Forgive. Always carry a pen and cash. Fix what is broken and don't complain. Love your spouse; it is the best kind of parenting. Describe someone you respect as being, "better than the average bear." Show up. Use the words "thank you" as a prayer. Teach your kiddos how to dance by placing their feet on top of yours and moving to the music. Don't give up on a garment just because it has a little age. Listen and then do what you think is best. Don't make excuses. Be tough when taking on the world and tender when tucking your children in at night. Live what you believe rather than telling others what you think. Peel your grandchildren a peach and crack pecans for them. Share your bounty, your best, your smile. Chisholm was the ninth of eleven children. He was a bit rough and tumble growing up but those Chisholms have all been there for each through thick and through thin for their entire lives. Surviving siblings Edna Johnson, Bernell Hanford, Geraldine (Allen) Cranford, Nancy Cox and Charles (Florence) Chisholm will carry on the Chisholm traditions for this dear brother and siblings preceding him in death, Clyde and D.S. Chisholm, Ruth Pritchard, Dorothy McCallum and Lucille Jordan. There are many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends too numerous to name and too wonderful to forget. Three grateful daughters will try their very best every day because that is their Dad's legacy - Cathy (Ken) Beason, Jody (Joey) Terry, Terri (Cliff) McKellar. It is his grandchildren J.R. Terry, Lacy Terry (Sean) Carter, Kenyan, Braylen, Brody, Drake Beason, Sid and Will McKellar and great granddaughter Josie Terry who will share stories with their grandchildren of their Paw who was "better than the average bear." Chisholm is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife Nancy and precious granddaughter Lindley Karan Beason. Visitation will be at Calvary United Methodist Church in Asheboro on Wednesday, March 15 noon until 1:45 and funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm at Calvary United Methodist Church with Rev. Alice Day officiating. Burial will be held in Randolph Memorial Park with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Chisholm and his family were given the best ending together due to the care he received at home from Hospice of Randolph County: Megan, Julie, Angie, Hannah and Sara. In lieu of flowers a donation could be made to Calvary United Methodist Church or Hospice of Randolph County - and maybe give a kindness to someone not expecting it, Chis would love that. Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro is serving the Chisholm family.
