Daniel Melvin Thomas, age 93, of 204 Shannon Rd., Asheboro died Friday, May 15, 2009 at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.Mr. Thomas was born May 23, 1915 at Cameron, NC the son of Melvin C. and Mary Belle Kelly Thomas. Mr. Thomas was a native of Moore County and an Army veteran of WWII with the 84 th Infantry in Europe. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church where he was also a member of the Lloyd's Bible Class. Mr. Thomas was owner of Dan Thomas Pontiac since 1966 and a NCADA Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. He was a member of Asheboro Rotary Club where he was also a Paul Harris Fellow and was a founding member of East Hog Eye Yacht Club. Dan was a proud sponsor of youth athletics and many community affairs. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Jerodean C. "Duck" Thomas; brothers, Henry Thomas, John Thomas and J.W. "Toopie" Thomas; sisters, Dorothy Sanders and Rebecca Carlyle. He is survived by son: Wayne Thomas and his wife Brenda of Asheboro, NC; grandsons: Daniel Trent Thomas and Cam Thomas of Asheboro, NC; Special Friend, Audrey Armfield of Asheboro, NC; sisters: Margaret Sanders of Asheboro, NC, Shirley Williams of Shallotte, NC, Carol Scott of Sanford, NC; brothers: Paul Thomas of Sanford, NC, Max Thomas of Pinehurst, NC, Sandy Thomas of Pawley's Island, SC, Bobby Thomas of N. Myrtle Beach, SC.The family will receive friends Sunday, May 17, 2009 from 6 - 8 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. The funeral will be Monday, May 18, 2009 at 4:00 PM at Central United Methodist Church, 300 South Main Street, Asheboro with Dr. Mark J. Key and Rev. W. Christopher Thore officiating.
