Daniel M. "Dan" Richardson, age 71, of 1228 Ingram Dr., Asheboro died Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.
Mr. Richardson was born July 1, 1941 in Bland, VA to Hubert G. and Clara Richardson. He was formerly employed with Klopman Mills/Burlington Transportation for 27 years, and retired from Knorr/Unilever after 16 years, where he was affectionately known as "Dan the Man." He was called out of retirement to work at Malt-O-Meal, where he continued to work as long as his health permitted. He attended Asheboro Friends Meeting with his wife, Lois. Dan loved his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved to travel and experience new things. He and Lois also took yearly trips with a group from his high school, located in Bland, VA. When home, he enjoyed watching Westerns with his beloved "little dog", Muffin. Dan the Man loved his neighbors and his country. He always treated people the way he wanted to be treated and never met a stranger. In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas L. "Little Tommy" Richardson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Lois Wood Richardson; son, Tim Richardson and his wife Trish of Bastian, VA; daughters, Teresa Holston and her husband Wayne of Wytheville, VA, Amy Fogleman and her husband Al of Asheboro; brother: H. G. "Buzz" Richardson, Jr. of Bland, VA; sisters, Gayle Williams and her husband Jim of Bluefield, WV, Margot Granger and her husband Jim of Bluefield, WV; grandchildren, Brandi Nicole Hunley and Terri Lynn Hunley both of Wytheville, VA, Dustin E. Nau, Derek A. Nau and Gabe H. Nau all of Bastian, VA.
Dan will have one more granddaughter, due to be born to his daughter Amy and her husband Al, in April.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Asheboro Friends Meeting with Rev. Ken Thames officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 27, 2012 from 6-8 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 S. Main St., Randleman and other times at his home.
