Fred Curtis Marsh Jr., 50, ended his courageous battle with cancer on the morning of Feb. 25, 2009, with beloved family members by his side. He was born on Dec.15, 1958, to Julia Chriscoe Marsh of Seagrove and Fred Curtis Marsh Sr. of Asheboro.
Curt was a loving son, a beloved brother, a fun and cherished uncle and great-uncle, and a respected friend with a gentle and generous spirit. When he proudly purchased his house three years ago, his innate green thumb and eye for color served him well as he turned a house into a warm home of his dreams. As family and friends gathered there on the day of his passing, through tears they fondly admired his plants, his bear collectibles, and his success in surrounding himself with beauty.
During his 31 years with Energizer, Curt worked among friends, some of whom became like an extended family as they came to admire Curt's calm, accepting way and his warm smile. Curt was a gadget guy, and followed that Southern tradition of being a Panthers and Braves fan, as well as a regular visitor to Myrtle Beach.
After his education at Seagrove Elementary, he graduated as a well-liked member of the Southwestern High School class of '77. After graduating and while working, he earned a degree from Randolph Community College in Applied Sciences and Information Systems in 2001.
In addition to his parents, Curt is survived by his stepmother, Karen Marsh; his sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Doug Wise; his brother Randy Marsh; and his step-brother, Chad Holmes, all of Asheboro; and stepsister Tamara and James Willis, of Liberty. Curt dearly loved his nieces and nephews, Alex Wise, John and Brooke Wise, Shannon and Randy Gunn, Michelle and Munsey Crigger, Jenny Villarruel and fiance Danny Santos, all of Asheboro, and Garrett Kinley of Seagrove. He was a great uncle to his great-nieces Cara, Jessica, Lyndsie, Mady and Gaby, and great-nephews, Mason, Addison, Joshua, Donovan and Dylan. Family friends, Martha, Kendra and Madison, as well as very special aunts, uncles and cousins also mourn Curt's memory. He was preceded in death by his brother Tim.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009 6-8 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro. Funeral services will be Sunday, March 1, 2009, at 2 p.m. in Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Union Grove Baptist Church in Seagrove with the Revs. Kelly Ottinger, Ron Chaney and Mark Hall officiating.
In keeping with Curt's generous and accepting spirit, the family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Hospice, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of the donor's choice.
