Clinton Daniel Kelly, age 86, of 3651 Pekin Rd, Candor died Monday, February 9, 2009 at Autumn Care Nursing & Rehabilitation, Biscoe.Mr. Kelly was born September 25, 1922 at Rockingham, NC the son of Daniel Shuford and Pearlie Mae (Harris) Kelly. Although born in Richmond County, Clinton lived most of his life in Montgomery County. He was a member of Hickory Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church, a US Navy veteran of World War II and a retired correctional officer. He was a life time member of VFW Post #8866 of Holden Beach, a member of the Fraternal Woodmen of The World. He was preceded in death by a son, Danny Kelly, a brother, Wilburn Dewey Kelly and a sister, Ruby Freeman.He is survived by his wife: Lucille Dennis Kelly of the home; one daughter: Darlene Safrit and husband, Sid of Candor; one son: David Keith Kelly of Candor; four sisters: Cassie Lee McCaskill and husband, D.C. of Candor, Irene Loftin and son, John Robert of Troy, Emma Lee Ledbetter of Troy, Carolyn Story and husband, Harold of Mt. Gilead; one brother: James Kelly and wife, Delores of Candor; sister-in-law: Velvin Kelly of Troy; grandsons: Brant Kelly, Levi Kelly, Jesse Kelly, Brian Wright; great-grandson, Eli Kelly; great-granddaughter, Samantha Kelly and a host of nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 N Main St., Troy; other times at the home. The funeral will be Friday at 2:00 pm at Hickory Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church, Pekin Rd, Candor with Pastor Doug Shuff and Rev. Hugh Chaney officiating.
