Virgil Clifton Rumley of Asheboro died Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Durham.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Barry L. Queen officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
He was the son of the late Louis and Zenobia Rumley of Stokesdale, NC. He was associated with and president of Baldwin & Rumley Tire Company for 36 years. He was a veteran of WWII, 2nd Armored Division, under General Patton in all the European invasion. A member of Central United Methodist Church, he served on the official board, was a member of the Lloyd's Bible Class, and the Board of Ushers. Clifton was preceded in death by his daughter, Anna Rumley.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Stout Rumley; son, Edward Rumley and his wife Diana Rumley of Asheboro; granddaughter, Sarah Rumley of Asheboro; sister, Laura Rumley of Greensboro; and sister-in-law, Penny Rumley of Fayetteville.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC.
