Claude Junior Mitchell

Claude Junior Mitchell, age 89, of 1302 Old Cox Road, Asheboro died Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro. Mr. Mitchell was born June 24, 1924 the son of Carr Ross and Mary Caroline Barnett Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was a native of Alexander County and a charter member of Cochran Street Baptist Church in Statesville. He was the former owner of 115 Upholstery and retired from Thomasville Furniture. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving in WWII. In addition to his parents, Claude was preceded in death by his wife: Mary Katherine Mitchell, brothers: Sam Mitchell and Ralph Mitchell; twin sister: Maude Mitchell Black; sisters: Ella Mitchell Godfrey, Daphne Mitchell Harrington and an infant sister. Mr. Mitchell is survived by two daughters and their spouse: Renea and Rev. Johnny Henderson of Asheboro, Kathy and Perry Miller of Statesville; son: Claude LaVon Mitchell of Statesville, 5 grandchildren: Denise McAlister Redfear, Jody Allen and her husband, Tom Allen, Adrienne Henderson Macon and her husband, Patrick Macon, Danielle Henderson Kelly and her husband, Matthew Kelly, and Elizabeth Henderson; 9 great grandchildren: Ashley McAlister, Michelle McAlister Warren and her husband, Jarreth Warren, Nick Allen, Kate Allen, Gracie-Faith Macon, Chloe Macon, Carter Macon, Josiah Kelly and Joselyn Kelly; and sister: Maricele Mitchell Bowles. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Cross Road Baptist Church, 1566 Old Cox Road, Asheboro prior to the funeral service at 11:00 AM with Rev. Johnny Henderson and Rev. Greg Arnold officiating. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 PM at Hams Grove Baptist Church, 202 Hams Grove Road, Statesville, NC with military honors provided by Harmony American Legion Post 113.
