James Clarence Pugh, age 90, of Franklinville died Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Universal Health Care Of Ramseur. Mr. Pugh was a native of Randolph County, a United States Army Veteran and graduate of Providence High School. Clarence was a lifetime member of Bethany United Methodist Church where he served on numerous committees and was a Sunday School teacher, Superintendant and Lay Leader. He was active with missionary trips which included Haiti and The Cherokee Indian Reservation. Clarence was a retired Building Superintendent for churches, schools and commercial buildings. Woodcarving was a passionate hobby which led to teaching classes at Randolph Community College. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Mr. Pugh is preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Kearns Pugh, parents, James and Urilla Pugh, sisters, Sally Allred, Betty Barnett, and brother, Vernace Pugh. He is survived by four daughters: Charlotte Routh, and her husband Sam of Franklinville, Rhoda Davis and her husband Don of High Point, Jean Millikan and her husband Joe of Randleman, and Phyllis Tucker and her husband Greg of Franklinville; sisters: Helen Wallace of Greensboro, Ida Mae Stout of Randleman, Ernestine Lineberry of Julian and Jan Yow of Greensboro; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 28, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 South Main Street, Randleman, NC and other times at the home of Charlotte Routh, 3769 Mack Lineberry Rd., Franklinville. The funeral service will be held Sunday, May 29, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Bethany United Methodist Church, 3650 Bethany Church Road, Franklinville with Rev. Dr. Russell Brownworth and Rev. Sam Hinton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by Randolph County Honor Guard. The family gives thanks to Universal Health Care of Ramseur and Hospice of Randolph for the special love and care Clarence received.
